Funding

Many students receive assistantships that are merit based and, after the first semester, performance based. Graduate assistants generally work with faculty on a variety of research efforts and field work opportunities, some of which lead to publications. Assistantships pay a stipend ranging up to $5,000 per semester (2018-2019). A limited number of out-of-state tuition remissions are also available on a competitive basis. All qualified applicants are automatically considered.

The Department of History offers generous scholarships and awards for both undergraduate and graduate students. The Department’s benefactors have established a variety of endowments to encourage outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service. Some of the Department’s scholarships are intended for outstanding students who also demonstrate financial need. To apply, please see the online application portal, AcademicWorks.
